Many may wonder that dark green stool may be associated with more severe conditions than the ones in case of passing light green stool. Well, this isn't the case. As mentioned, occasional episodes of green stool does not raise any concerns. But what may, is when the condition starts getting frequent. If the underlying cause has been diagnosed to be ingested food items or prescription medications, then things are not so serious. On the other hand, if the condition is related to the diseases such as the ones mentioned above, then things might get ugly thus, medical intervention is a must.
For stool to pass properly through the bowels, fiber is needed. Fiber gives the stool its bulk and helps its movement through the intestines. When the fiber content is less, the stool has less bulk and becomes hard, dry and is more difficult to pass out. This leads to constipation, bloating and even rectal bleeding at times. Thus, it is important to consume high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables. Including whole grains to the diet is also helpful. People with mild constipation problems can obtain relief just by consuming a high-fiber diet. Moreover, this a good stool softener for children.
When we eat, the food breaks down into small pieces and is sent to the small intestine for further absorption of nutrients, vitamins and minerals. The waste material which is left out after the process of absorption, is excreted in the form of stool. Normally the color of the stool varies from light to medium brown.
